A Treatment Session with Silk'n
During the treatment you press the Silk'n against the area of skin with unwanted hair you'd like to remove. The Silk'n should not be used on the face or neck. As you treat the area a bright light will flash and a "popping" sound will accompany each pulse of light. This is normal. As your hair follicles absorbed the light you may feel a tingling pain and heat. This may be more pronounced during the first several sessions as you have more hair follicles. The device also has a cooling fan which makes a noise similar to a blow dryer.
Who Can Use the Silk'n?
Silk'n is not for everyone. Patients with darker skin should not use the Silk'n as this may cause damage to the skin. As with laser hair removal, the Silk'n Home Pulsed Light™ technology is not as effective on light hairs such as blonde, gray or white hairs as on dark hairs. The ideal candidate for Silk'n would have dark hair and lighter skin. Finally, if you still have doubts, please consult with your GP.
Where on the body can Silk’n be used?
The Silk’n device has been designed for body treatments anywhere below the neck. The Silk'n also should not be used on the face, as this may cause unwanted hair growth or damage to the eyes. The most common areas treated with Silk’n are: legs, underarms, arms and bikini line. Silk’n is not recommended for use on the face, and may not be suitable for everyone. We recommend that you read all the Silk’n warnings and contraindications in the manual.
What to expect during a Silk'n Treatment
For many people, using Silk’n™ may be their first experience with a light-based device designed for self-treatment. Silk’n™ is simple to use, and treatments go by quickly. During treatment it is normal to experience:
1. A Flash of Light – The bright light of Silk’n™ will not harm the eyes when applied to non-facial sites, and special eye-protection is not needed when doing Silk’n™ treatments.
2. A Fan Noise – The cooling fan in Silk’n™ makes noise similar to a hairdryer. This is normal.
3. A Pop Sound with Each Pulse – When a pulse of HPL™ light is activated, it is normal to hear a subtle pop sound simultaneously with the flash of light.
4. Moderate Pressure of the Applicator – This is necessary and helpful for placement of adjacent pulses of light.
5. Sensation of Warmth and Tingling – During each pulse of light it is normal to feel a mild sensation of warmth and tingling from the light energy. Remember it is important to always use low energy settings for initial treatments.
Results
The hair removal results for each person can be varied for many reasons. Hair colour, density and location on the body all have an impact of the ultimate result. Environment may also play a role. Another important factor affecting you hair removal result is the hair growth cycle, which is typically 18-24 months. During this period multiple Silk'n treatments may be required in order to achieve the best long-term hair removal result.
The company reports that "an average reduction of 50% in hair count was seen three months after three bi-weekly treatments." A quote from Dr. Tina Alster posted on their website states "Patients who were previously treated with professional hair removal systems used in my clinic had a chance to use Silk'n™ in clinical trials. They reported that self-treatment was easy, relatively painless, and resulted in noticeable hair reduction after each treatment."
Lifetime of a Cartridge
The lamp cartridge lasts for approximately 750 shots, which is enough shots to treat an entire body once, or achieve multiple treatments on the legs only, underarms only, and so on. The warning lights on the Silk’n control panel will let you know when you are close to or have reached the 750 shot limit.
Instructions
How to replace a Silk'n Disposable Lamp Cartridge:
1. Press the POWER ON/OFF SWITCH to turn the Silk'n off.
2. Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Grasp the used Disposable Lamp Cartridge on both sides, pull it out
of the socket, and discard.
4. Unwrap a new Disposable Lamp Cartridge.
5. Line up the holes in the applicator socket with the metal and plastic
hinges in the new Disposable Lamp Cartridge, and push it gently into
place.
6. If correctly installed, the Disposable Lamp Cartridge will spring back
when pushed in and released.
Cautions
• If you are under a physician's care for any skin condition or if you think you may have a skin condition, consult your physician before using Silk'n PRO.
• Like all light-based technologies for hair removal, HPL is not suitable for naturally dark complexions.
• If you have a fresh suntan or if you have recently been exposed to the sun, you should not use Silk'n PRO.
• Always check your skin during and after use of Silk'n PRO; if your skin blisters or burns, stop the treatment immediately.
• Silk'n PRO is an electrical device; as such, it should not be used or placed around water.
Do not share Silk'n PRO lamp cartridges with anyone who is suffering from a skin condition.
• Certain adverse effects may occur after Silk'n PRO treatment; these are rare and usually temporary.
• If you experience any complications, such as redness of the skin or a lasting heat sensation, stop using Silk'n PRO and consult your dermatologist or GP immediately.
